As gig work grows, PeraSure seeks to bridge the gap in access to credit

MANILA, Philippines – The growth of gig and informal employment is changing how Filipinos earn, but access to credit has not always kept pace. For workers whose incomes come from freelance assignments, platform-based work, or small businesses, conventional lending requirements can create obstacles when they need funds to manage everyday expenses and cash flow.

Approximately 9.9 million Filipinos work in gig or informal roles, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. That is about 22% of the country’s 44 million employed workers, many of whom may not have the regular payslips or employer-issued documents commonly used in traditional credit assessments.

Against this backdrop, PeraSure, a digital lending app operated by SEC-registered Sulit Lending Corporation, has officially launched in the Philippines with a lending process designed to accommodate a wider range of income arrangements.

“Many hardworking Filipinos earn a living outside a regular payroll, yet lending has long been built around payslips,” PeraSure noted. “We want borrowers to see exactly what they will pay, within the SEC’s limits, before they confirm a loan.”

Eligible users can apply using a government-issued ID and basic employment or income information, reducing the paperwork required for a conventional consumer loan application. The platform also provides borrowers with a breakdown of interest rates, applicable fees, and total repayment amounts before they confirm a loan.

The launch comes amid changes to the regulatory framework governing small loans. Under SEC Memorandum Circular No. 14, Series of 2025, effective April 1, 2026, combined interest and fees on qualifying small loans are capped at 12% per month, down from 15% per month.

PeraSure charges a daily interest rate as low as 0.10%, below the updated regulatory ceiling. Its eligible borrowers can access loan amounts of up to ₱50,000, with repayment periods of 30 to 180 days depending on individual credit evaluations.

The platform’s revolving credit model is intended to provide continuity beyond a single loan. Eligible borrowers can draw on their approved credit line over time instead of having to restart the application and qualification process for every transaction. Their credit limits may grow as they build a record of repayment.

By offering an alternative for people whose income does not follow a traditional payroll structure, PeraSure aims to support the changing financial needs of salaried workers, gig workers, and micro-entrepreneurs.

The PeraSure app is now available on Google Play.
